Urban Pest Management Training Review

Pest control qualifications and training are undergoing a significant review in 2025.

The review of urban pest management training is underway. Co-ordinated by BuildSkills Australia, the industry is undergoing a complete review of pest control qualifications and training requirements. According to BuildSkills, which is the national Jobs and Skills Council for the built environment sector, the current Cert III and Cert IV qualifications and the constituent units of competency are “no longer addressing the knowledge and skilling needs of the industry”.

The stated outcomes of this project will be “fit for purpose qualifications that will assist with the establishment of skilled and capable urban pest management technicians”.

After the recent request for nominations, a technical committee is now in place to advise the BuildSkills project team. There is also a list of key stakeholders that BuildSkills will engage with during the training product development process. The project has a target end date of 24 April 2026.

Information and current status can be found on the BuildSkills website.
