The efficacy of Altriset liquid termiticide has been proven in lab trials and in the field for many years, making it a sound choice for pest managers in the ASEAN region.

Now there is a non-repellent termiticide that provides excellent control of termites without harming beneficial insects. Altriset termiticide is in a class of chemistry with a mode of action like no other termite control product. Laboratory and field studies prove Altriset halts termite feeding within hours of exposure while providing control for critical long-term structural protection. Plus, Altriset was registered for use on termites by the US EPA under its Reduced Risk Pesticide Program in 2010.

Altriset Termiticide Profile

  • Controls termites within three months or less when used in accordance with the label.
  • Halts termite feeding within hours of exposure.
  • Provides long-lasting residual protection.
  • Non-repellent chemistry is indiscernible to termites.
  • Behavioural impact on termites enhances transfer throughout the colony.
  • As a delayed toxicant, the mode of action is like no other termite control product and makes it easy to infect and control a termite colony.
  • 2011 Agro Award winner for Best Innovation in Non-crop.
  • Singapore Green Mark certified (leader with four ticks).

Termite efficacy

Studies have proven that Altriset is highly effective against termites, and halts termite feeding within hours of exposure. Laboratory tests have shown that as termites tunnel through the treated zone, they quickly acquire a lethal dose of Altriset.

Once affected by Altriset, termites will begin to exhibit increased aggregation, enhanced grooming and contact with other colony members. Affected termites will become more lethargic and show signs of muscle paralysis and decreased coordination, and termite mortality will ultimately occur within several days (Figure 1). The delayed termite mortality and increased colony interaction are key reasons why Altriset is so effective.

Figure 1: A termite worker that tunneled through sand treated with Altriset at 0.05%. The worker ‘picked up’ and ingested large amounts of chlorantraniliprole as evidenced by the glowing areas. The chlorantraniliprole on the mandibles causes the feeding cessation. Altriset on the cuticles of the termites is readily passed to other termites through contact and grooming.

Feeding cessation

In a laboratory test arena, termites (R. flavipes) were allowed to tunnel in treated sand (for approximately 30 minutes) or treated soil (for approximately 90 minutes), then removed to an untreated arena provisioned with a cellulose food source. Evaluation of paper towel disks after 2-3 days revealed that termites exposed to Altriset consumed no paper, while termites in untreated controls consumed approximately 180mm2 of paper on average. Soils contained 20-97% sand and 1-5% organic matter.1

Eight-year USDA forest service efficacy test

In a long-term USDA Forest Service concrete slab test, Altriset has demonstrated excellent performance for eight years at the four test sites. The non-repellent and delayed action of Altriset was apparent in year four in Florida, where a single plot was initially attacked, but devoid of termites in subsequent years (Figure 2). The same effect is noted in year five in South Carolina. The most difficult site for a termiticide to be successful is Mississippi, and Altriset has achieved 100% control for eight straight years.

Altriset stops termites feeding within hours

The study illustrates that within 72 hours, after only 30-90 minutes exposure to Altriset, termites are unable to feed.

Altriset delivers

When used in accordance with its label, Altriset halts termite feeding within hours of exposure to control the population within three months. It also provides residual protection for more than seven years. Altriset has quickly gained ground as the premier termiticide choice for many pest management professionals.

Agro Awards, a globally distinguished organisation that carries the highest level of professional acknowledgment within the crop and non-crop protection and production industry, awarded Altriset the Best Innovation Non-Crop award in 2011. With outstanding performance attributes, it’s clear Altriset is leading the way forward in termite control.
