Vale John Peaty (1947–2025)

Professional Pest Manager acknowledges the sad passing of John Peaty, a leading figure in the Australian pest industry.

At the end of March, the pest community said farewell to a well loved and respected figure in the industry, John Peaty, affectionately known as JP.

While many younger pest managers may not be familiar with his name, those who’ve been in the industry a long time will know of his legacy.

Born and raised in Caringbah, a southern suburb of Sydney, he started Greenkeeping Supplies & Construction in 1973 as a supplier of specialty products to the professional turf industry. Later in 1981 he purchased Globe Chemicals & Trading, an importer of various commodity chemicals.

At first, Globe specialised in turf products, operating out of warehouses in Sydney and Rocklea, QLD. At that time, many turf products overlapped with pest control, and soon pest managers started to source their products from Globe. Around 1990, the pest control division of Globe was established, with Mr Peaty purchasing two branches of PIC (the Pest Industry Co-op), which was closing down for business at that time. Soon after, Globe’s Newcastle and Melbourne stores were open for business.

Together with his hardworking team, Mr Peaty built what is today known as Globe Pest Control Supplies, a reputable product supplier with branches across the country.

In 2012 Mr Peaty chose to step back and sell to a major international conglomerate, choosing to spend his time involved in various business ventures and local community causes.

Mr Peaty leaves behind his children and grandchildren, and a lasting impact on the pest industry.
