Professional Pest Manager shares the sad news of the passing of Dr Don Ewart.
Dr Donald McGregor Ewart – simply ‘Dr Don’ to many – sadly passed away on November 14, 2025. Dr Ewart was one of the few termite specialists in Australia, having devoted his career to the study of termites, development of termite products and education of pest managers.
His loss will be significant. Not only to his friends and colleagues in the industry, but his knowledge of termite behaviour and termite management will be difficult to replace. To many pest managers, Dr Don was renowned for his approachability, his passion to educate on termite behaviour and control techniques, and his genuine desire to help those looking to improve their termite management skills.
His importance to the industry was recognised recently, being awarded AEPMA Life Membership, for his outstanding service to the pest control industry.
“Don was a man of deep intellect, fierce independence and a genuine passion for our industry,” reflected Rob Boschma, AEPMA President. “We have been incredibly privileged to have Don among us where he has influenced so many either via his insightful talks at industry forums or at a more personal level where he would always make time to answer those more nuanced questions. Don was one of a kind and although I mourn his loss, I celebrate the remarkable person he was and the incredible legacy he leaves behind.”
