A round-up of PelGar International’s business activities, including the launch of a new soft rodent bait in Australia.
In the winter of 1995, two individuals, Dr Gareth Capel-Williams and Dr Jonathan Wade, had a vision of creating a rodenticide manufacturing company that would focus on the research and development of highly palatable and effective rodent baits.
Twenty years later, with 90 employees and operating in over 80 countries this vision has been developed into a global brand that produces a wide range of public health products, from rodenticides through to natural insecticides for vector control.
PelGar International produces its own actives, which are synthesised in the European Union and all have a European registration dossier. Besides producing finished rodenticide baits, PelGar International also supplies manufacturing concentrate at 2.5% and 0.25% to the industry.
PelGar International launches new soft rodent bait in Australia
It has now been five years since PelGar International launched its range of rodenticides into the professional pest, retail and rural markets in Australia. Their two major brands in rodent control are Roban and Brigand. This month sees the launch of their new Roban Paste Bait into the market, which is manufactured at their production facility in the UK.
PelGar International expands into insecticide production
In May last year, PelGar announced the acquisition of pesticide manufacturing company Agropharm, which has manufacturing and packing facilities in Telford, Shropshire. Agropharm offers a wide range of quality products and marketing solutions for the retail, professional pest control, public health and crop protection markets.
The acquisition provides an excellent synergy with the PelGar product range and customer base. In particular, Agropharm’s natural pyrethrum range has helped to boost their market share in the international pest control and agricultural sectors throughout the Asia Pacific Region.
PelGar USA
In March this year PelGar International acquired the US company, AB Bait. AB Bait was and marketing group for Brigand rodenticides in the USA. The North American business will operate under the PelGar USA brand and will bring the full support of PelGar International to the US Market.
Launched in the US in 2010, Brigand rodenticides have established a firm foothold in the US market offering a high quality alternative to traditional brands.
New era for Church Farm
Church Farm – the UK’s most comprehensive pest management training centre – is now being run with the backing of PelGar International Ltd. The deal will support the future development of the site, which has been managed by Dr Steve Havers.
Dr Havers has developed Church Farm over the last decade to be the UK’s premier facility, offering first class training both practically and
in the classroom. It offers a unique opportunity to study the behaviour of large populations of rodents, view and examine live insect pests and get a proper feel for the practical role that a pest controller would have to face, through experiencing the many scenario rooms available on site.
With the support of PelGar, Dr Havers and Alex Wade, PelGar’s technical manager, are already putting the new plans into action.
“Firstly there will be the development of a second training room which will enable two groups to use the site concurrently,” commented Mr Wade.
“We will also be developing the insectary and will soon be able to offer over 30 species of live insects for study, as well as developing additional scenario rooms for even more comprehensive training.”
