Auger beetle and Power Post beetle identification chard

Calling All Pest Managers: Be Part of the Research to Protect Our Unique Ecosystems and Buildings

The CSIRO’s Australian National Insect Collection needs YOUR expertise! They’re hunting for specific wood-boring beetles, and you’re their eyes in the field.

What They Need:
Auger Beetles (Family Bostrichidae), including Powderpost Beetles (Subfamily Lyctinae)

Specifically looking for:
• Heterobostrychus spp.
• Dinoderus spp.
• Lyctus spp.
Lyctoxylon detatum
Minthea spp.
• Sinoxylon spp.
• Trogoxylon spp.

Why It Matters:
These small brown beetles are often misidentified due to diagnostic limitations, which impacts treatment success and research. Your field samples could help us develop molecular diagnostic tools, monitor their quarantine status, and improve control strategies across Australia! What’s more, you are helping protect our unique Aussie ecosystems for years to come.

Found One? Here’s How to Help:
Collect the specimen (preserve in 96% ethanol)
Record location and date sample was collected
Post to ANIC CSIRO: Black Mountain Stores, Bld 803: Clunies Ross St, Acton, ACT 2601
Be part of a group of people helping to further protect our country

Every beetle counts! Let’s help CSIRO build better pest management solutions.
