Although launched more than 30 years ago, Bayer’s Cislin brand continues to use deltamethrin to deliver excellent results in general pest treatments.
Deltamethrin has been a mainstay of the pest control industry for years – “a formulation second-to- none.” Jeff Einam, technical and regulatory affairs manager, at Bayer Environmental Science (ANZ), reviews deltamethrin’s uses, performance and benefits.
Deltamethrin is a long-established and proven synthetic derivative of the natural insecticide, pyrethrum. It has a very high level of safety at approved use rates and has a number of important uses worldwide. It is one of the main compounds used in the fight against malaria-carrying mosquitoes (both as an indoor spray and for the treatment of mosquito bed-nets).
Deltamethrin provides excellent knockdown, affecting a specific area of the insect’s nervous system. Insects are much more susceptible
to deltamethrin than humans, other mammals and birds. More importantly, it is safe to use in the home around family and pets, as it binds tightly to surfaces where it is applied, and is not readily dislodged. It is not volatile, so no airborne residues are generated after spray droplets have settled.
Studies carried out by Bayer have proven this.
Deltamethrin is the active ingredient in Bayer’s proven professional insecticide, Cislin 25, which has a broad label including approval for use in food processing establishments (e.g. kitchens – HACCP approved) and meat processing establishments (AQIS declaration).
The fundamental chemical characteristics of deltamethrin which make it invaluable as a surface spray in public health, domestic and industrial areas include:
- Photostable – does not degrade in light at normal temperatures
- Biodegradable – deltamethrin does not accumulate in the environment
- Odourless and non-staining
- Low mammalian toxicity
- Effective against a wide range of pests including cockroaches, fleas, spiders, bedbugs, ants, flies, etc
- Can be used with confidence on a range of surface types.
Consistent formulation quality and reliable performance has been a feature of Bayer’s Cislin brand, since it was introduced more than 30 years ago. Add to this a very high level of safety and you have the ultimate general insect control product, which the industry has clearly recognised over this time period.
Deltamethrin is a proven performer throughout the professional pest management industry, which explains the success and longevity of the Cislin brand in Australia. Cislin offers the ultimate killing power both indoors and outdoors and given its long-term residual insecticide, it lasts and lasts. It’s an ideal professional product that will cut down on callbacks due to its proven sustained residual activity.
Deltamethrin is a key active in Bayer’s future portfolio with some exciting technologies coming down the line. It’s an active that just does it all and is one of the most potent insecticidal compounds available, so it may be an oldie, but it’s definitely a goldie!
