The claims team at Rapid Solutions shares some helpful reminders about how to avoid litigation when it comes to termite management.
As summer approaches, termite management activity is increasing, and for some pest management companies it will mean the unfortunate experience of an insurance claim.
According to Rapid Solutions, the average termite management claim is a staggering $25,000, a figure that should prompt all pest managers to take stock of their business practices in order to ensure they avoid any mistakes.
The top five causes of termite management claims against pest managers, according to Rapid Solutions are:
- Incorrect training and/or outdated skillset
- Incomplete inspection
- Inaccurate reporting
- Incorrect treatment
- Inappropriate insurance.
Whilst it is important to have the right tools, reporting methods and business insurance in place in order to help buffer your business from a claim, Rapid Solutions suggests a number of tips to follow.
Firstly, understand the termite behaviour and the correct treatment. This can be achieved by undertaking the correct initial training and taking a refresher course every few years, whilst also keeping abreast of industry updates and changes to Australian Standards. For each treatment, be meticulous in checking chemical labels beforehand, measuring and mixing correctly, and noting what treatment was completed where.
When writing an inspection report, use clear and appropriate recommendations specific to each customer’s situation. It’s also a good idea to write your report in real-time using an app like Rapid Inspect, to avoid forgetting little details. Ensure you mention all limitations within the report, and areas where a more invasive inspection is recommended.
