Liphatech offers two solutions for pest managers looking to gain control of rodents.
Maki Block rodenticide contains the single-feed anticoagulant bromadiolone, which was discovered and developed by Liphatech. Available in two different formats, Maki Block gives pest managers the flexibility to use the product in the way that best suits their needs.
The 20 g block bait is made from high-grade food cereals and its extruded formulation is effective against roof rats, Norway rats and house mice. Its weather resistant properties make it ideal for use in highly humid and damp environments, making it a sound choice for maintenance programs.
Gavin Wilson, technical and marketing manager for Liphatech, explained, “With Liphatech discovering bromadiolone in the 1970s, we have been able to hone the bait formulation to deliver professional pest managers an effective and unique rodent bait.
“Maki Block is a highly palatable, weather resistant bait. It gives pest managers confidence that their rodent control programs are effective and can withstand harsh environmental conditions. Maki Block also saves a lot of money as there’s no need to throw away wasted baits due to mould or disintegration.”
The weather is not the only factor that can erode pest managers’ profits. Rodenticide blocks are also attractive to pests such as snails, slugs, cockroaches and crickets. Depending on bait station locations and environmental factors, recently laid baits might only last a few days before being consumed by non-target pests, leaving a gap in a rodent management program. Maki Wrapped was developed by Liphatech approximately ten years ago after listening to professional pest managers’ regular feedback about the wastage of baits due to attack by snails, slugs and insects.
Maki Wrapped is simply Maki Block wrapped in a plastic sachet. Maki Wrapped contains all of the features of Maki Block – made with Liphatech’s bromadiolone as the active ingredient, with the 20 g extruded formulation having the same weather resistant properties – but with the added value proposition of being enclosed in a sachet to protect the rodent bait from snails, slugs and insects. Another benefit is that Maki Wrapped is protected in areas that are washed down with water.
Mr Wilson advises that when securing Maki Wrapped, it is important to fold down each side of the sachet firmly against the ends of the bait before aligning and pushing through the bait station securing rod. This creates a very small hole in either end of the sachet that the rod will pass through, which will obtain the best results.
When Maki Wrapped is secured in the bait station, both rats and mice will eat through the sachet. If the pest rodent species on site is unknown, the sachet can help with pest identification – rats will create a large hole when feeding, while mice will create multiple, smaller holes.
Another added feature of Maki Wrapped is that the product details such as the active ingredient and APVMA number are written on the sachet, making onsite data recording or audits easier. Maki Block and Maki Wrapped are made with the same active ingredient and bait formulation
so only one SDS (Maki Block Weather Proof Rodenticide) is used for both products. This saves time when managing onsite pest management folders and vehicle chemical registers.
