The MGK product range will soon be available in Australia via Sumitomo Chemical.

Sumitomo Chemical Australia will commence distribution of the US based McLaughlin Gormley King Company (MGK) insecticide product range from April 1, 2015.

MGK is a leader in the development and distribution of a wide range of insect control technologies. It manufactures insect control products for the home consumer, professional pest control, animal health and crop protection markets.

In Australia and New Zealand, MGK currently has a strong business established around the botanical insecticide pyrethrum, insect repellents such as DEET and proprietary insecticidal synergists.

“MGK’s local operation will be integrated into Sumitomo Chemical and we are delighted to have Lachlan Brodie (above, left) joining us as sales manager to ensure a smooth transition for business and customer relations,” said Sumitomo managing director Tony Brookes (above, centre).

“Lachlan will report to Dr Gordon Reidy (above, right) who will manage our overall Household Insecticide and Consumer Goods business.

“The MGK product range and pipeline fits brilliantly with our current operation in supplying specialty insecticides for household applications and our recent successful foray into consumer goods for home pest control.

“It also sits very nicely with our biological insecticide range used in crop production and public health applications,” added Mr Brookes.

Dr Reidy outlined his plan for the next three months to firstly call on key customers with Mr Brodie and assure them of business as usual. The second task will be to quickly identify new opportunities for product development.

Dr Reidy went on to say that, ”Access to MGK’s global product portfolio, pipeline and product development capabilities greatly strengthens Sumitomo Chemical Australia’s position in the consumer and environmental health sectors in ANZ. We look forward to working with our customers to bring new and differentiated products to market.”

The local integration comes as a result of Sumitomo Chemical taking a majority shareholding in MGK and global action on cooperation, collective research and development and realisation of synergies.
