Greenzone Termite and Insect Barrier is a pre-construction termite barrier system designed to improve cost efficiency, waste reduction and project scheduling on site.

Available to accredited pest managers, Greenzone integrates a compressible foam substrate with bifenthrin – a pyrethroid insecticide and termiticide – resulting in one product serving three functions: as a termite barrier, an insect barrier and an expansion joint foam.

The innovation of Greenzone is that it is a one-step process where the termite barrier itself acts as an expansion joint or control joint. It works the other way too – the expansion joint foam can be applied to all elements of construction that require a termite barrier in order to comply with the Building Code of Australia.

This reduces the two-step (sometimes multi-step) process required to install termite barriers around pipe penetrations and in control/expansion joints to just one step, requiring only one trade.

When can Greenzone be installed?

In a first for the building and pest control industry, Greenzone can be installed at more than one stage within the construction project schedule: either before the formwork is installed, when the pipe penetrations are in the ground; or after the steel and formwork are installed, before the concrete is poured.

This means that unlike traditional pre-construction termite barrier systems, the Greenzone system gives flexibility – meaning no more waiting around for the pest manager.

Further benefits of Greenzone

Greenzone protects against termite entry around service penetrations and in control joints in concrete slabs for up to 50 years in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

The fact that Greenzone is a self-adhesive product means that in most building and construction applications the process requires only one-step installation and no specialist tools. There is no need to cut caps off plumbing pipes and no clips, clamps, ties or concrete nails are required to attach the product to penetrations.

These 22 penetrations (above) were protected from termite and insect entry in less than 25 minutes.

Darrell Miller from Peninsular Pest Control in Mornington, VIC, had a very positive experience using Greenzone on a Besser block infill slab construction. “I found Greenzone very simple to install with the sticky back. I used the product on a Besser block infill slab construction and the concreter was happy with the barrier installation because it was so versatile. I will definitely be using and recommending Greenzone in the future,” said Mr Miller. “Thanks for a terrific new product.”

Glenn O’Sullivan from BG Pest Control in Braeside, VIC, had a similar experience. “Greenzone was absolutely brilliant around concrete tilt ups and concrete panels. It took less than half the time of the physical barrier we normally use and I couldn’t believe how well the product stuck to the panel,” he said. “As well as being a great time saver, we also saved on glue and shooting nails which was a huge bonus.”

Here, Greenzone was fitted after the steel and formwork were installed, before the concrete was poured

CodeMark certification

In November 2017 Greenzone Termite and Insect Repellent Barrier achieved CodeMark certification. CodeMark is a voluntary third-party building product certification scheme that approves the use of new and innovative products, ensuring their compliance with the Building Code of Australia (BCA ).

Being awarded CodeMark Certificate of Conformity gives regulatory bodies and the professional pest control industry total confidence in Greenzone, as they can be certain that it meets the ‘evidence of suitability’ requirements of the BCA together with state or territory variations. Greenzone is also APVMA (Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority) registered, which means that Greenzone Termite and Insect Barrier has been approved for distribution, sale and use in Australia.

Accreditation program

A free Greenzone accreditation course is available to all licensed Australian pest managers. In the last five months, over 100 licensed pest managers and businesses have completed the online training to become accredited Greenzone installers (details available on the Greenzone website). Once accredited, pest managers can purchase Greenzone Termite and Insect Barrier from any main Australian distributor and can begin offering a new pre-construction termite solution.
