Associate Professor Thomas Chouvenc
Associate Professor Thomas Chouvenc is one of the few dedicated termite researchers globally, with over 100 scientific papers published on various aspects of termite behaviour and biology.
Currently, Dr Chouvenc is an Associate Professor of Urban Entomology at the University of Florida. In addition to his active termite research program, Dr Chouvenc runs a number of education programs and training events focused on termites and termite management.
Current Position
Dr Thomas Chouvenc is an Associate Professional of Urban Entomology at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center, University of Florida.
Experience
Dr Chouvenc has been a termite researcher for nearly 20 years, since he moved to the USA for his PhD studies.
In addition to his active termite research program, Dr Chouvenc is a leading termite educator, running a number of kit termite courses and training events:
School of Structural Fumigation
Interests
Dr Chouvenc research focuses on subterranean termite biology, with a particular interest in the field of evolution of insect societies, termite ecology and termite control. Dr. Chouvenc’s research primarily addresses the biology of two economically important termite pest species, the Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus) and the Asian subterranean termite (Coptotermes gestroi). Both species are invasive to Florida and have a major economic and ecological impact.
Using Coptotermes as a termite model system, Dr. Chouvenc’s research on behavior, symbiosis, physiology, colony demography and control of termites provides an updated perspective on the complexity of insect societies, which further improves our understanding of these remarkable organisms.
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, University of Florida – Urban Entomology.
Masters of Science, University of Paris XIII (France) – Animal Behaviour and Evolution.
Bachelor of Science (Animal Physiology), University of Burgandy (France).
Publications
Dr Chouvenc has published over 100 scientific papers on termite research.
