Find a Spider Control Company in Auckland
Spiders control is a common pest control treatment for homeowners in Auckland. Most people are tolerant of spiders in the garden but certainly don’t want them inside the house. Some spiders will give a nasty bite, spider webs can be unsightly and some people are just scared of spiders! Whereas most homeowners will feel confident in dealing with the occasional spider, if you have a spider infestation, often a professional spider pest control treatment will be the most effective way to manage the problem.
Spider Pest Control Auckland - Find a Spider Exterminator
Auckland’s climate provides ideal conditions for a variety of spider species, many of which build webs around windows, eaves, garages, and outdoor structures. While most spiders help control insects, their presence can become a nuisance—especially when webs accumulate or when spiders move indoors.
Professional spider exterminators use a combination of residual sprays, dusts, and targeted treatments to reduce spider populations and remove webs. These treatments are designed to address both the spiders themselves and the insects they feed on, helping to break the cycle of reinfestation.
When choosing a pest manager, look for companies experienced in spider control, as effective treatment requires understanding spider behaviour and habitat preferences.

Check their Qualifications
Make sure the pest manager has the appropriate training. There isn’t a license per se, but they should have an appropriate certificate to show they have completed the appropriate training.
There are three training certificates which comply with requirements:
- New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3, Urban Pest Control) – the current training qualification
- National Certificate in Urban Pest Management (Level 2) – the previous training qualification
- Three core units from the Australian Pest Management Qualification – CPP30911 Certificate III in Pest Management
Many pest managers are also members of the industry organisation PMANZ (Pest Management Association of New Zealand). To become members there are additional criteria and so using a PMANZ member can provide additional protection over using a non-member.
Confirm they are Insured
Qualifications and insurance are two separate things. A pest manager may have the qualifications to carry out the work but they may not be insured to carry out the work. Without insurance, if anything goes wrong, you are not protected.
Make sure their insurance covers pest work. The pest control company needs to provide you with a copy of their insurance if requested.
Check out their online reviews
If you haven’t received a recommendation from a friend, checking out their online reviews is the next best thing.
Ask about the details of their spider treatment?
So you can compare the spider treatments offered by different companies, ask the pest manager what they will do as part of the treatment:
- Are the going to spray the outside of the home?
- Will they spray the inside of the home?
- Will they treat roof voids and sub-floors?
- Will they treat out buildings, play equipment, etc?
This will give an indication of how comprehensive the treatment is and how long it will take. The more comprehensive treatments will be more expensive.
Note: Not all areas need to be treated (depending on the nature of the spider problem), but these areas are the main areas treated for a general spider problem.
What spider pest control warranties do they offer?
Spider pest control companies will guarantee elimination of spider infestations, and will often warranty the treatment performance or 3 – 6 months. Spider treatments will often provide protection against a range of crawling insects. So although it is target to eliminate and prevent spider problems, by eliminating other insects, it also eliminates potential spider food sources, making your home less attractive to spider.
The duration of protection will depend on whether it is inside or outside (treatments last a lot longer inside).
The long term warranty may be limited to web-building spiders as residual treatments tend to work best on preventing web-building spiders building their nests.
Common types of spider in Auckland
In Auckland, the four main species of spider that concern most Aucklanders are the black house spider, the white-tail spider, daddy long legs and occasionally the Avondale spider.
Black house spider
Black house spiders and their close relative the grey house spider are common spiders in Auckland. They building their dense funnel shaped webs around eaves, window and door frames. They tend to run and hide in their webs when disturbed but will give a painful bite if provoked.
White-tailed spider
White-tailed spiders are a dangerous spider which can give a nasty bite. However, white-tailed spiders do not cause flesh to decay.
They are a hunting spider (they do not build webs) and like to squeeze into small gaps – such as under clothes and between sheets!
As they do not build webs, white-tailed spiders are quite difficult to control.
Daddy Long Legs
Daddy long legs spiders are a common but harmless indoor spider. They build untidy webs in undisturbed areas of the home.
Generally homeowners can deal with daddy long legs on their own, with a crawling insect aerosol or even by using a vacuum cleaner!
Avondale Spider
The Avondale spider or social huntsman spider (Delena cancerides) is Australian spiders of huntsman spider that has been introduced and become established in a few small areas of New Zealand. It has been established in Avondale in Auckland for some time, thus its name.
It is unusual for spiders in that it can live in social groups of up to 300! Although it looks scary it is generally a quite timid spider and its bite is not overly painful.
