{"id":7435,"date":"2019-09-01T11:45:34","date_gmt":"2019-09-01T01:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ppmmagazine.com.au\/?p=7435"},"modified":"2022-10-12T11:30:24","modified_gmt":"2022-10-12T01:30:24","slug":"cane-toad-spotted-in-nsw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/other-pests\/cane-toad-spotted-in-nsw\/","title":{"rendered":"CANE TOAD SPOTTED IN NSW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The capture of a cane toad in NSW has set alarm bells ringing.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"hr-thick\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>A cane toad has been found on the NSW Central Coast, leading to fears that the invasive pest is more widespread than previously thought.<\/p>\n<p>The toad was spotted by a dam in the town of Somersby, just 85 km north of Sydney CBD. The family who captured it took it to the nearby Australian Reptile Park, giving the park\u2019s general manager <strong>Tim Faulkner<\/strong> cause for concern.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s extremely alarming to see one here, and we can only hope it was a one-off incident and they haven\u2019t been breeding,\u201d Mr Faulkner said.<\/p>\n<p>Cane toads, known for their spread across the northern parts of Australia after they were introduced to Queensland in 1935, have established themselves north of Coffs Harbour over the last 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s believed the cooler weather south of Coffs Harbour has stopped them from moving lower into NSW, making sightings of them further south rare.
