Deltamethrin has been a mainstay of the pest control industry for years \u2013\u00a0\u201ca formulation second-to-\u00a0none.\u201d Jeff Einam<\/strong>, technical and regulatory affairs manager, at Bayer Environmental\u00a0Science<\/a> (ANZ), reviews deltamethrin\u2019s uses, performance and benefits.<\/p>\n

Deltamethrin is a long-established and proven synthetic derivative of the natural insecticide, pyrethrum. It has a very high level of safety at approved use rates and has a number of important uses worldwide. It is one of the main compounds used in the fight against malaria-carrying mosquitoes (both as an indoor spray and for the treatment of mosquito bed-nets).<\/p>\n

Deltamethrin provides excellent knockdown, affecting a specific\u00a0area of the insect\u2019s nervous system. Insects are much more susceptible
\nto deltamethrin than humans, other mammals and birds. More importantly, it is safe to use in the home around family and pets, as it binds tightly to surfaces where it is applied, and is not readily dislodged. It is not volatile, so no airborne residues are generated after spray droplets have settled.<\/p>\n

Deltamethrin is the active ingredient\u00a0in Bayer\u2019s proven professional insecticide, Cislin 25<\/a>, which has a broad label including approval for use\u00a0in food processing\u00a0establishments (e.g. kitchens \u2013 HACCP\u00a0approved) and meat processing establishments (AQIS declaration).<\/p>\n
