Here are some examples demonstrating why it\u2019s important to be thorough and assume nothing during each and every inspection.<\/p>\n<h2>Pull back the carpet<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Craig Kramer<\/strong> from Eagle Eye Termite and Pest Control was called to a property in Molong (NSW) where the tenant was concerned about the bouncing and spongy carpet. \u201cApparently previous inspections had put it down to moisture because the bearers and floorboards were basically on the dirt. This is what we found when we pulled back the carpet.\u201d Moral of the story \u2013 read previous inspection reports from other companies (if available), but don\u2019t necessarily trust them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2726\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2726\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2726\" src=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0542-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0542-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0542-copy-low-res.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2726\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don\u2019t forget to peel pack carpets and rugs during inspections<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Termites in trees<\/h2>\n<p>Not normally noteworthy to have photos of termite activity in trees, but <strong>Aidan Wells<\/strong> from Pest Free Solutions in Taree (NSW) spotted this <em>Coptotermes<\/em> activity during an inspection. It looks like a drill hole, but it was already there prior to the inspection and went upwards. Very helpful for the termites to show themselves, but demonstrates the importance of checking trees on the property during an inspection.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2729\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2729\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2729\" src=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image1-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image1-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image1-copy-low-res.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Mastotermes<\/em> at work<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And for those who haven\u2019t seen <em>Mastotermes<\/em> in a while, here\u2019s a shot sent in by <strong>Michael McDonald<\/strong> from Permkil in central Queensland. <em>Mastotermes<\/em> can pack out the trunks of trees and palms in such numbers when you break the trunk open they actually pour out, like a liquid. Their soldiers are capable of drawing blood \u2013 apparently you cannot call yourself a termite researcher until you\u2019ve been bitten by <em>Mastotermes!<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2725\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2725\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2725\" src=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20170530_102442-copy-low-res-300x169.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20170530_102442-copy-low-res-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/20170530_102442-copy-low-res.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2725\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Coptotermes<\/em> showing themselves from a wound in the tree<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Hot termite activity in the cold room<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Marshall Blacklock<\/strong> from CDI Pest Management uncovered this large <em>Coptotermes<\/em> nest in a farm packing shed behind a coldroom. \u201cThe shed itself was built from bush timber posts and main bearers, with a dirt floor. There was approximately 500mm between the coldroom and shed wall and this was packed with mud. At the base it was about 1.5m wide and about 2m high. Treatment involved injection of 50 litres of Altriset directly into the post.
