When is a termite lead not a termite lead? When coastal brown ants (big-headed ants) try to trick you! (<strong>Jay Turner<\/strong>, Laguna Pest Control). Coastal brown ants can build their own protective tubes, but many ant species will also use existing termite tunnels and mud leads \u2013 always be careful when picking open a mud lead to see what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2238\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2238\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2238 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1207-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1207-copy-low-res-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/professionalpestmanager.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_1207-copy-low-res.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2238\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coastal brown ants have formed a \u2018termite lead&#8217;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Baits are designed to be attractive to termites, but a backpack sprayer? <strong>Gavin Stoter<\/strong> from Pest Off Solutions in Cairns spotted these <em>Scheorhinotermes<\/em> leads. \u201cI came across this recently in a lawn locker, I have no idea what drew the termites to this backpack sprayer, but as you can see they are tracking up the strap and then going up under the lid. Jay Turner also found an <em>Nasutitermes<\/em> nest around a water heater in a roof void.
