South Australian property owners and pest managers can safely dispose of their mobile phones at the same time as their unwanted chemicals when Agsafe\u2019s ChemClear collection hits the road in June.<\/p>\n

The agricultural and veterinary chemical waste disposal program has teamed up with MobileMuster, the mobile industry product stewardship program, for the first collection of its kind, giving pest managers in remote areas of SA a chance to recycle mobiles and accessories.<\/p>\n

MobileMuster recycling manager, Spyro<\/strong> Kalos<\/strong>, said the collaboration will make it easy for rural pest managers to responsibly dispose of both their mobile phones and chemicals in one convenient collection. \u201cThis is a great initiative that tackles two waste streams and gives residents an opportunity to de-clutter their home or work space in a safe, secure and environmentally sound way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The aim of the MobileMuster program is to keep old mobiles and accessories out of landfill and ensure they are responsibly recycled. MobileMuster accepts and recycles all brands and types of mobile phones and accessories. Everything is recycled, nothing is resold and all data is destroyed in the process. Copper, aluminium, glass and plastic can all be extracted and reused for other purposes.<\/p>\n

ChemClear is a waste management program that encourages pest managers and other agvet chemical users to clean up their farms and chemical stores, and register unused chemicals for collection and safe disposal to ensure sound environmental practices.<\/p>\n

The June 2018 ChemClear collection will take place in SA, however registrations are open to pest managers operating around Australia.\u00a0Once registrations in a state or territory reach a certain quantity, ChemClear will contact each registrant to provide them with details of the upcoming collection in their region. Pest managers have until 27th<\/sup> April to register their unwanted chemicals online or by phone; on their scheduled delivery day they can simply bring their old mobiles and accessories along with their registered chemicals.<\/p>\n

Agsafe<\/a> general manager, Alison Carmichael<\/strong>, encourages pest managers to take an inventory before registering. \u201cThe easiest way to get organised is to make a list of all surplus and unknown chemicals, then contact ChemClear or go to our online registration portal and register them before 27th<\/sup> April,\u201d Ms Carmichael said.
