A new initiative aims to raise awareness of global pest issues with the creation of Global Pest Awareness Day.
The first Global Pest Awareness Day will be held on 6 June 2017 and is designed to raise the status of the pest management industry amongst the general public.
The goal is to create awareness among citizens all over the world of the way professional pest managers provide protection for their food, their homes, their families and the environment in which they live.
It is hoped that Global Pest Awareness Day will become an annual event.
The initiative was proposed by the Chinese Pest Management Association in 2015 and is supported by the Federation of Asian & Oceania Pest Managers Associations (FAOPMA), the National Pest Management Association in the USA (NPMA) and the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations (CEPA), as well as the World Health Organisation (WHO).
It is hoped that pest professionals around the world get behind the idea, and set up local events explaining pest management the public.
