FMC is proud to support Hummingbird House, a Queensland children’s hospice, through its donation of HomeGuard products.

Sandgate Pest Control donated the labour and FMC donated HomeGuard products for the pre-construction stages of Hummingbird House, Queensland’s first hospice built specifically for children. Hummingbird House was established to meet the needs of around 3700 Queensland families who are living with, loving and supporting a child or teenager with a life-limiting condition.

Hummingbird house has a mission to “provide world-class respite and end of life care for life-limited children and their families, and to help them discover moments and create memories to last a lifetime.” Being Queensland’s only children’s hospice, they will be operating as an eight bed, 24/7 medical facility allowing family breaks and emergency respite care.

Managing director of Sandgate Pest Control, Louise Howarth, said, “We became involved five years ago when the vision to build a Children’s Hospice in Chermside, Queensland was in its infancy. Our very dear, close friends lost their little girl, aged three, from a life-limiting illness. Access to respite and support wasn’t available here in Queensland for them and they needed to travel to New South Wales.”

Since then, the journey to build Hummingbird House has grown to become the shared vision of the community, businesses and government right across Queensland.

Greg Hunt, FMC Specialty Solutions business development manager for Queensland, toured Hummingbird House in 2016. “The facility that has been built is fantastic and FMC Australasia is proud to be able to support such a worthy cause for the families of Queensland.”

It was important to Sandgate Pest Control and FMC Specialty Solutions that Hummingbird House had long-term protection from subterranean termites so that all future focus and funds could be spent on the children, not the facility.

On 7 October 2016, Hummingbird House officially opened its doors and welcomed its first families soon after. If you would like to donate directly to Hummingbird House please visit
